Toby Joel. A coach once made it a literal goal to get him engaged in a conversation beyond quiet "yes" and "no" answers. At home, we sometimes have to ask him to give other family members a chance to talk.
This guy is Mister Internal Motivation. He decided to retrain his fingers into a more proper pencil-holding position, he practices his drums a self-set number of days before his lesson each week, he organized a four-day approach to studying for his first-ever final.
His friends and coaches are starting to see his goofy side, and we just smile because we've been in on this secret for 10.5 years. Toby is the full package; you just have to wait until he's ready to show you what's beyond the wrapping. It's worth the wait.
