A day in this season of life

Today has been blocked off as a work day.

Not for my pay job (which I can't wait to talk about in a future post!) but for all the other work that constitutes my days during this season.

We have one week until school is out, and some of my mom friends and I have come to agree that this end-of-school-year season (basically since Easter) has been the fullest, trickiest we've experienced.  So many details.  So many responsibilities.  So many wonderful moments that take an awful lot of juggling to make happen.  And it's full speed until the very end.

When life is like this, my brain flits from task to task without completing things or prioritizing, so I thought today, I would do a bit of a what-got-done list as I go as a way to keep myself focused and motivated.  Also, it will serve as a slice-of-life for me to look back on in the future, as previous entries in this diary-blog have served for me.

Tuesday

6-7 am | Last night we had the late baseball make-up game (during the same night as a 2.5 hour meeting for Mark and a chorus concert for Ish, of course), which meant it was past 10 pm before we even got home, let alone start the shower/bed process.  We were all dragging this morning. The only reason why I got out of bed quickly today was an adrenaline rush upon realizing that I hadn't seen Ish's clothes for today's performance field trip on the hanger where they were to be...  Quick iron job with my coffee!

7-8:30 am | Packing field trip lunches, trying to convince kids to get moving.  Toby's shoulder/arm was hurting from pitching last night, so in the midst of getting everyone out the door, we were trying to assess if a doctor was needed.  (Extra stretching and some ibuprofen was the trick for him.)  We got three kids to our makeshift bus stop (our driveway is currently a ditch, due to continuing drainage and repaving work being done these days), but Toby unfortunately had to have his mom in her rolled-out-of-bed look walk him into the school to sign in as tardy.

8:30-9 am | Eating my breakfast while catching up on the last two days of my Bible reading.

9-10 am | Cleaning up the wreck from breakfast- and lunch-making, looking at the to-do list to figure out what has to be completed first, figuring out which of the week's meals needs to go on which nights, sending the imperative emails, dealing with a major scheduling snafu.

10-1:30 pm | Church computer work: creating templates, updating the website, scheduling out social media for the week.

1:30-2:30 pm | Finally finishing getting myself ready for the day (ha!), eating lunch, ironing Eli's concert clothes for tonight.

2:30-3:15 pm | Quick stop at the church to do some office work.

3:15-4:30 pm | Eli and Julian are home from school!  Getting snacks, helping with homework, prepping dinner.

4:30-5:30 pm | Picking up Toby and Ish from after school event.  Toby and Mark head off for a haircut, I start the grill.

5:30-6:30 pm | Dinner and getting Eli to rehearsal.

6:30-9:00 pm | Concert time!  Tonight was Eli's final middle school performance.  Thinking back to his very first performance here as a sixth grader and seeing those tall, confident eighth graders brought me quite a bit of pause today as he WAS that tall, confident eighth grader.  Eli received an amazing award tonight that involved two teachers spending time sharing with the audience about his kindness, hard work, humility, and talent.  We were a proud family!

9:00-10:30 pm | Bedtime routine.  No one is in a hurry these days; at least the summer will take away the pressure of a school-appropriate bedtime.
