When you take the last tissue in the box, think of those who follow you. Put the box in recycling, put a new box in its place, and move on with your day.
When you are entering a room or building, look to see if someone is coming after you and then hold the door open for them.
When you are getting seconds during a meal, look to see how much is left and how many people might still want more before loading your plate with abandon.
Every day will provide opportunities for you to consider the needs of others, but this lesson goes beyond just being nice. You know from having siblings and cousins that you always have someone watching you. How are you paving the way for them? Are you a living example of how they should act? When your example isn't one worth imitating, are you apologizing and speaking truth? When you make choices, are you looking to your own needs or also to those who will be affected by your choices?
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus." Philippians 2:3-5
