Ish's pain management has been remarkably better than the last time that he had full leg casts, and he is most comfortable when he is distracted, so we decided to fill our Thursday with a bit of adventure.
{I never specifically mentioned it before, but Mark was with us on this Baltimore trip! I have this odd aversion to mentioning in real time that our house is empty, but now that we are home, I can fill in the blanks without worrying about someone trying to break in and kidnap our hamster or anything. Though we needn't have worried - we came home to finding out that the hamster took his role so seriously about guarding the home that he broke out of his cage to better defend the turf. He might be elderly, but he is spry! And no, we didn't leave our pets home alone without anyone checking on them. They were daily cared for by a kind friend.}
Thursday morning we boarded a train to Washington, D.C. We probably could have just stayed on the train all morning and afternoon and the boys would have deemed the trip a success!
A train ride with a wheelchair is a unique experience. Especially when joining the commuter crowd on our return trip. The boys loved every single minute of it.

It was nearly 100 degrees the entire time we were in DC, but the boys really hung in there. We worked hard to stay as cool as possible - especially for the little guy in full leg casts! The boys agreed to add a few blocks to our walk back to the train station so that we could see a few more sights.

Quote from Eli: "I just never thought in my whole life I would see the White House in person!"
Eli was particularly happy to see the White House Kitchen Garden, since we had read about it recently.
Mark and Eli went to get the closer look of the White House while the rest of us hung out chugging gatorade in the shade near the General Sherman Memorial - though our relaxation was cut short by an escort out of the park by the Secret Service. {No, we didn't do anything illegal; they were just clearing the area for something that we didn't stick around to discover. Having the Secret Service looking so seriously at us was exciting enough.}
Some more hot walking, dinner, and another train ride later, we were back in Bmore, all worn out, ending our night watching the beginning of the Miami Heat's victory. A great, long day.
Great adventure! You are very brave and excellent parents. We did this once with three little girls. I probably should have taken more pictures because all I remember is hot and tired. Times five. Love the 'dino' shots of the boys.
