Happy birthday, Daddy! For your birthday, how about a five-hour drive in a temperamental car, deluxe accommodations including 5 people and 3 twin beds, a scream-o party all night long, and another five-hour drive back a little more than 24 hours later?
We know that you are amazing, but we could see yet another side of your amazingness in how much you enjoyed all five of us just being together. Even amidst the pain screaming, the tight quarters, the microwaved quesadillas, the store-bought birthday cupcakes (that someone else so lovingly bought!), the hard therapy session - your eyes sparkled. Because you love us, this family of yours.
As we drove in the van, Toby talked about how families start, and you and I smiled to think about our family beginnings, how when it was just the two of us we could never have imagined how we would look 10 years later.
Today, we all happily celebrate the one who gave this family our name - you, this man who pulled into the parking lot and made everything seem right with the world again.
Happy birthday, Daddy-o. Can't wait to be under the same roof again.
*Another one of our blessings while here:
one of our packages from friends at home included tons of party supplies,
enabling us to give Daddy a party away from home.*
