We indiansandpirates look for excuses to like to celebrate up in here, and one of our favorite causes for celebration is the half birthday.
With Eli's whole birthday being just two days before, Daddy's half birthday is often a quickly-pulled-together affair. This year, we were all determined for that not to be the case. We brainstormed, Eli googled, and we came up with what we felt was a perfect match for our potato-chip-addicted man of the house:
We made our secretive plans and waited for Daddy to leave for his evening meeting. And then, we got to work.
The recipe came with a comment that said something along the lines of finally knowing what to do with all of those crumbs at the bottom of the chip bag. Well, in this house where chips are gone in the blink of an eye, I can honestly say that what to do with chip crumbs has never even crossed my mind - there are certainly not even crumbs of crumbs left around here! We hid a bag of chips in the attic until the coast was clear, and then Toby and Ish worked on making crumbs - a skill that they had already previously perfected. Eli measured, everyone helped hold the mixer, and then there was a joyous outcry from children who realized that the recipe didn't include eggs and the Mama was actually going to let them lick the beaters! (So I have a little bit of an issue with the thought of infecting my children with salmonella - I know, I know.) We each sampled a baked cookie, too, just to make sure that they were celebration-worthy, of course. And they were.
Happy Half Birthday, Daddy!
And there's half a bag of chips in the snack cabinet just waiting for you. Eli asks that you please save him some.
