The day we learned that we had been chosen to become Ish's forever family, we scurried around like crazy people trying to take care of all the packing, news-announcing, paperwork-collecting, fish-care-providing, middle-name-giving stuff that had to be done in less than 24 hours. But in the midst of that, we sat down and read Joshua 1 and were especially encouraged by the "be strong and courageous ... for the Lord your God will be with you" part of Joshua 1:9.
A few days later, we were feeling overwhelmed by all the uncertainty of the interstate compact (waiting for permission to take Ish out of NC and to PA) and the what-might-be's that kept coming to mind each time we dressed Ish or kissed his fingers. Then, we read an email from Mark's cousin Marcia, a fellow adoptive parent who knew what we were most likely experiencing. And in that email? "Be strong and courageous; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
Two weeks ago, we were praying through the decision of whether to pursue Ish's medical treatment through Baltimore or not, and God again brought Joshua 1:9 to our hearts and minds. He also brought tremendous peace that Baltimore is where Ish's next part of the journey begins.
One year ago, we sent out a plea to friends and family to join us in praying for Ish's miracle: that God would (1) heal in such a way that Ish would not need amputations or (2) bring such peace and comfort to us that we could make the decision to amputate with certainty. Today, we are grateful and overjoyed to announce that God has worked miraculously. God has worked through Ish - physically and emotionally - in such a way that he is not going to need amputations. And we can say this with certainty.
Thank you for praying for Ish and for our entire family! In January, we will be given the timeline for surgeries; until then, would you join us in praying that Ish's feet do not continue to drift? January is a long time from now, and the rate at which his feet are drifting causes us concern for his comfort until then.
Be strong and courageous, for the Lord is with you wherever you go!
